Baltic Rush is found at low to mid elevations. Found in wet depressions, ,moist meadows, sloughs, springs, swales. Typical environment is where it is most often wet soil and areas that are flooded in spring and dry out in fall. Very drought tolerant. Extremely flood tolerant. Soils range from silt and clay loams to coarse and peat substrates.
